Active Child - You Are All I See

Between the harp and the heavy synth, it’s hard to believe this music—this voice— to come from anywhere but the heavens. Former choir boy Pat Grossi (Active Child) released this ethereal track a few days ago as a sneak peek into his forthcoming album, You Are All I See— out August 23. If this fluttery piece isn’t enough to convince you of anticipation, try the album trailer below:

James & Evander - Constellating

Much like the title of the song hints at, this track by Oaklanders James & Evander certainly lifts you up musically, however, the lyrics are of the “big picture” variety— quickly grounding you with its dejected frustration. What I like about this song is that it gives you a choose-your-own-adventure scenario: fly away with the melody or use their words for some creative introspection. In either case (both of which I’ve tried), I’m a solid fan. If you like what you hear so far, play the list below and start a journey of your own:

The Coasts - Handshakers

I haven’t wailed like a rockabilly chick in the middle of the twist in a while but this song hits the spot! Paper Garden Records released this track as part of their Lonely Hearts Club series, giving me access to the Little Rock based band. Discovered in Paper Garden’s Turntable FM room, The Coasts are a shinning example of what gems have yet to be uncovered in the music-playing service— take a listen to their self-titled debut album below and BUY BUY BUY it ($5!) today.

Jens Lekman - An Argument With Myself

Lekman hasn’t been on my iPod for a while. Or my speakers. Every now and then, when my memories drift back to my post-high school/pre-college moment in time, the beginnings of “Farewell Song To Rocky Dennis” comes to mind and I revisit Oh You’re So Silent, JensHis new single, as expected, has hit another personal chord with me, this time of the self-effacing variety— and I absolutely love it.

His new EP, aptly titled An Argument With Myself is out on September 20th.

Exotica - Conte D’Ete (Afrofunk Version)

As my first day of freedom is underway, I’m drawn to the tropical sounds of Exotica and their sorbet-like tune from Kitsune Maison’s Indie Dance Compilation. I imagine passing by peach, orange and kiwi colors from a vendor stand on some foreign boardwalk while humming this ever addicting song. Whether it’s the deep keyboard solos, French hooks or airy, playful vocals— it’s definitely a staple on Commuter Hits: Summer 2011. While you’re at it, check out the unofficial yet appropriate music video.

Neighbour + Think Tank - Lando (Tad Wily Remix)

cus a Lando party don't stop.

Featured on Tronik Youth’s May Chart Mix, it creeped up on me and had me shuffling in my bus seat before the vocals began. I don’t think I’ve had this much fun listening to a song in a while, much less a song about our beloved Cloud City double crosser. The original as well and other remixes available on Lando EP via Juno Download.

Flight Facilities made it easy for me and made an April mix of their reworks of singles on my rotation; not to mention bringing back a track from last year that I couldn’t shake off. To bring my flight fascination to full circle, here’s a track from last year that I couldn’t shake off; welcome back to the rotation, “I Crave Paris”:

He was introduced to me a couple years back when I asked a friend for some music to study to— it spread like wildfire throughout the CS study circles that quarter because Computer Club knew how to do one thing incredibly well: Switch. It. Up.

So when they were featured on awesome electroblog Dodselectro recently, my obsession was fueled again. Below is my favorite track by him and a recent mixtape he just released. Ignore all qualms today, folks. It’s FRIDAY.
