My Cinco de Mayo mixtape.
My Cinco de Mayo mixtape.
I was just dancing. I’ve stopped all the music. All fucking day.
Politics aside: Everyone, please begin looking for ways to help the families of victims. This is— this is just heartbreaking.
“Physical retail is still absolutely crucial to many in the independent sector and if – as seems quite likely – several smaller labels aren’t covered by insurers, this could be the difference between survival and going out of business”, Paul Scaife of Record Of The Day talking to The Guardian
This is the spirit in which I write this post— The Quietus reported earlier today that Sony DADC warehouse was burnt down last night, which PIAS uses to house their stock; this has effectively crippled small independent labels counting on the independent distributor. While I’m sure there’s a plan B being executed, as any good business would have, you can help lessen the damage by buying PIAS-related records. Lucky for us, The Quietus has arranged an incredible list in which— riot or not— should be in your collections. Should you see nothing of interest or want the full list of labels affected, scroll to the bottom of the article.
Have at it, folks.
On its third album, the Swedish quartet sharpens its sound without losing the dreamy pop sensibility that makes its songs so addictive. Hear Ritual Union it its entirety.

I’m glad my patience for this album has paid off— I absolutely love it. Unfortunately, the narration is part of the promotional copy (hopefully a special release with the narration in the future? :D)— take a first listen over at NPR Music.

Franky B. Rockerfeller, cre/curator of Listen Before You Buy had an idea:
A few weeks ago I had an idea to get a bunch of blogs and artists all together in one Google Docs document and organise a weekly mixtape battle between everyone.
I got a decent amount of feedback and interest and I now have 16 participants, two of which will face off against each other every week, the winners going on to a round robin and eventually there will be only one winner. I don’t want to go on for too long, so you can see the rules and the schedule right here, and below you can get stuck in to first two mixtapes. They’re both anonymous and were both given the theme of “Lights” to base their tape around, so give them a listen and vote below the mixes on which one you thought best fit theme and was overall just the mostest awesomest.
This week’s battlers are (Twitter handles and in alphabetical order) @beachonthemoon (repping OneThirtyBPM) and @loudersoft (repping Loudersoft). The winner moves on, the loser loses and picks the theme for the next week’s battle. Both mixtapes are excellent, so give them a listen and vote!
You heard the man! Follow the link to the polling station to listen + cast your vote for the best mixtape today! (Or at least before Sunday night.)
Is this a fun concept or what? :D

While featured previously, my dissection of Ricky Eat Acid’s catalog only gave me greater appreciation for his knack in creating distinctive imagery. His tone photography skills are further sharpened in his recent EP debut April— take a listen below:

My silence is broken with warm coastal vocals via Steffaloo— travel through the seasons with her and rediscover all the nuances of being in and out of love.
YAA BOYEEEEE!

Check out the intro piece I did on them for Listen Before You Buy. They’ve been woefully under-featured on this site— again to be remedied. I call it “Spring Cleaning”.

Listen to early laid-back tones of Bethany Consentino before her “Crazy For You” debut.

Losing My Edge is a simple music blog with impeccable taste based out of L.A. all things good are located here.
I’m actually based in the SF Bay Area, but originally from L.A.— that picture is up there because I found the majority of my music tastes there. (“L.A.? WE LOVE IT!”)
Also, I HIGHLY recommend getting this Extension FM app if you have Chrome— it’s made my productivity about 80% faster. Thanks to them, I am a dancing machine.
Everyone feeling the love this morning? <3 On to musics!
